Welcome to SGT Dan Stockfoods, manufacturers of quality stockfoods, situated in the historic Creamoata building (formerly Flemings) in Gore. For many years the iconic figure of ‘SGT Dan’ was the trademark of Creamoata, a porridge manufactured and distributed from Gore by the entrepreneurial Fleming family.
The Flemings built a large and impressive processing plant on a Gorton Street site for several reasons. One of these was its proximity to the main South Island railway line – the Flemings had their own spur that is still there today.
Another reason was that Gore was close to the South Island’s major grain-growing areas and a third was that the district had a stable and reliable workforce.
Today Creamoata may be no more – but SGT Dan is still alive and kicking! Today he is the trademark of SGT Dan Stockfoods Limited – a company based in Fleming’s big old mill.
SGT Dan Stockfoods processes local grain – not for porridge but for high quality stockfeed – and offers employment to a significant number of local people.
