A historic place for local Maori, Cable Bay has also featured highly in early European history of the area, being the site of the terminus of the trans-Tasman telegraph cable which came ashore here in the early part of the 20th century. The Cable Bay Café premises was built as tearooms in the 1920s by the Wiffen Family for weekend visitors from Nelson, after the closure of the trans-Tasman Cable Station at the bay.

We are situated in Hira, which is a lovely rural community only 10 minutes drive north of Nelson City on State Highway 6. With fully trained staff, excellent secure facilities and onsite 24 hour personal care, we provide a safe, fun and relaxing stay for your treasured four legged family member. Our staff look forward to meeting you and your pet and welcome your inspection during our opening hours. We offer accommodation for both cats and dogs. Other animals may be hosted by prior arrangement.
